Happy First Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day to my sweet husband.

Today is even more special because this is his first time to celebrate Father’s Day as a father.  Although he only has two months as a father under his belt, he has been exceptional – loving, kind, and so gentle with our sweet little one.

I love you for being the best father for little M and the perfect partner for me.

First Father's Day

Welcome to the World!

Our little bundle of love finally arrived on April 10, almost two weeks beyond the due date. The first three weeks of her life have been joyous, blissful, emotional and at times overwhelming. Honestly, I don’t know if I could have made it through without all the support, reassurance and love from my sweet husband.
Join us in welcoming our little princess to the world!

The Big Ole Secret I’ve Been Keeping

It’s true I’ve fallen off the blogging wagon for several months. The truth is I haven’t forgotten about blogging or stopped loving makeup…far from it. But I have been very preoccupied. All my additional energy has been directed toward the arrival of my baby! That’s right! Any day now, I am anticipating the arrival of a little baby girl!
It’s been a long journey and I’m beyond excited to welcome Baby Bea into the world and share my experience with you here. As a first time mom, I’ve invested a lot of time and energy into preparing for her arrival and learning as much as I can. At times I’ve felt entirely overwhelmed (and I’m positive there is more of that to come) but I think I created a plan to utilize the time before the baby arrives get as prepared as possible.
Once the Little One is home and settled in I hope to share with you all I’ve learned. Until then stay beautiful!
Love, Bea

Only for a Moment

Knee-deep in work, I glanced up from my desk to see this water color reflection on my wall.
Stained Glass Reflection
My office contains a stained glass window which I adore and have spent many moments appreciating.  Believe me, I know I’m blessed to work in such a tranquil space.  I’ve been saturated with color as the afternoon sun shines through but never have I seen the swirling colors projected on the wall.  Luckily, I had my camera with me so I quickly snapped a few photos. And before I knew it “it” was gone. What a treat!

Why I Blog

*This post has taken me months to write. It feels like the term paper I keep putting off. I’ve struggled with the idea of sharing more about my personal life but finally feel like the time is right to open up.

A little over a year ago, I started blogging as an outlet for my beauty obsession.  It’s true I am bananas about everything beauty.  You would only need to see the makeup “counter” in my bedroom to verify that. Besides providing a reason to splurge on additional beauty products I needed a distraction from life.

Window 3

My life for the last year and half has been almost entirely engrossed in and weighted down by my fertility challenges.  I used this blog as my buoy to keep my head just above the water. Instead of spending every waking minute reading message boards and trying to determine the root of the issue, I focused on lip gloss, concealer and nail polish. For the most part this beautify blog has kept me sane and for that I am grateful.

Window 2

This process has been frustrating and at times heart breaking and something I’ve kept to myself for the most part.  But I hope this simple post will resonate with some of you struggling to conceive and allow me the opportunity to share more in the future.

Nasty Cat

Lucy came into my life at a very dark time.  The Siamese cat I had shared 23 years of my life (more than half of my life), Ms. Kitty had passed away and I was heartbroken.  Sure I had lost pets before but Ms. had been a tremendous part of my past. I had rescued her when I was in junior high, she had lived with my mother while I was away at college, she had lived with me in my first apartment in a residence hall and had made the big move from Texas to NYC.  She lived a full life and although my heart still aches for her I have come to love another cat.

Siamese Cat

Although she almost always has a judgmental look on her face Lucy is loving and affectionate. I will never know her past but it seems apparent that she relishes in the comfort we provide her.  When she arrived at our house she had no idea how to use a hooded litter box…it took us a little longer to figure out why she wasn’t using it. Cat toys are sometimes scary things but we have finally found a few she loves. Only last week, she finally slept in her cat bed – a bed we bought her 2 years ago!  And most importantly, she tolerates and occasionally even plays with her old French Bulldog sister.

Cats Drool

On Saturday afternoon, there is nothing I love more than to cuddle with her on the sofa.  She will snuggle right up against you and lay her little head on your arm and pillow and then she will proceed to drool all over you! It is nasty, thus the name Nasty Cat, but it is just a response to being content and receiving affection.  The old adage “dogs drool and cats rule” isn’t always true in our house!

We love you Lucy!

Venice Biennale 2013

In June, my husband and I returned to Italy to celebrate our one year anniversary. I’ve been to Italy several times but never had an opportunity to attend the Biennale which is only held on odd years. When I learned we would be returning in 2013, I was beyond thrilled. Here are a few pics from the two days we spent exploring and experiencing the modern art at the Venice Biennale.

Unexpected Use for Dry Shampoo

I am a planner. I can’t help it, I am a Virgo.  So when my husband and I were planning our two-week trip to northern Italy, I was busy creating spreadsheets of must-sees and planning my wardrobe for the trip.  For weeks I religiously checked the weather forecast.  The report was consistently high 70′s during the day and low 60′s at night.  This is what I consider truly perfect weather.

The first four days of our trip the weather was wonderful but then something changed.  High humidity and 90+ days turned into hot sticky nights.  The light sweaters, long sleeve tees and jeans I packed became entirely unnecessary.  Less than a week into our trip I had worn every light piece of clothing (twice) and everything in my suitcase needed to be laundered in the worst possible way.

Although I had sent everything out to be washed, I quickly burned through all the clean clothes. Our last night in Venice, I literally had nothing fresh to wear to dinner.  In a flash I had a brilliant thought.  “If dry shampoo makes my stank hair bearable it might just work on clothes.”  I turned my jeans and top inside out and gave them a light spray of Psssssst! Instant Dry Shampoo. Presto! The funk was gone.
